MediaTek, et al. adv. Sanyo (C.D. California, 2005-2007).

Jim Otteson was lead counsel for MediaTek, Inc. and its customers in a patent infringement case in Los Angeles in which Sanyo sought roughly $200 million in damages. Mr. Otteson's team significantly reduced defendants' potential liability through a series of successful summary judgment motions. The district court judge issued orders that Sanyo could not assert direct infringement or collect damages against most of defendants' accused products. With Sanyo's potential recovery substantially reduced, Mr. Otteson helped to negotiate a successful settlement in which Sanyo received less than the amount defendants would have spent to take the case to trial, and less than 1% of the damages Sanyo originally sought.
